Does Northeastern accept credit from AP exams, IB exams, or other schools?

Students may enter the University with advanced credit on the basis of test scores on Advanced Placement (AP) exams, the International Baccalaureate (IB), or on successful completion of accredited college-level courses that were taken before entering Northeastern. Students must submit official score reports for credit evaluation.

Advanced Placement exams:
College credit is awarded for scores of 4 or 5 on most AP exams.
International Baccalaureate exams:
Only higher-level exams with grades of 5, 6 or 7 will be considered for college credit. Standard-level exams are not considered for credit.
Courses taken at other institutions:
Transfer credit may be awarded for college-level courses taken at accredited institutions for which the student has earned a “C” or better.

When will I graduate from Northeastern?

The standard undergraduate program at Northeastern University is five years long. This is because most students complete eighteen months of educational internships in addition to their classroom studies. We expect that most students will follow the five-year model to maximize Northeastern’s co-operative learning opportunities. However, Criminal Justice majors have the flexibility of choosing whether or not to participate in the co-op program. Students who decide not to participate in co-op may progress towards graduation at an accelerated rate as compared to their peers.

How do I know what classes to take during freshman year?

Undergraduate students entering the University are required to participate in an orientation program prior to their arrival. This program is a valuable opportunity to prepare for a successful academic career at Northeastern University. During new student orientation, students will complete placement exams and meet with representatives from the College of Criminal Justice to develop their freshman year schedule. All Criminal Justice freshmen are enrolled in a common curriculum: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Ethics Values & Diversity in Criminal Justice, Foundations of Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Computer Science Applications, College Writing, Applications of Algebra, and a Social Science elective. Students entering Northeastern with advanced credit will work with an Academic Advisor to select appropriate substitute coursework.

When can I go on my first co-op?

Most students become eligible to participate in Criminal Justice co-ops during the Spring or Summer Semester of their sophomore year. For more information about co-op, please reference:
