Types Of Study

Full Time

At present, full-time study allows for the completion of course work within an eighteen month period. To complete program requirements within this time frame, full-time students must devote a substantial portion of their time outside of the classroom to academic study. For students who choose to write a thesis, simultaneous work on a thesis is also expected during this period.

Part Time

Students who elect part-time study may carry a maximum of one or two courses per semester, one of which must be a required course. Close consultation with the Graduate School Director can help the part-time student determine a workable sequence of courses and the number of credits to be carried each semester. All degree requirements must be completed within seven years from the date of enrollment.

Non-Degree Student

Those students who are not pursuing a specific degree program are classified as special students. Special students must satisfy the requirements for admission by completing the on line application and submitting all supporting documents with the exception of the GRE. In addition, they must perform work of a satisfactory level in order to continue as special students. Special students are allowed to complete a maximum of 2 courses or six semester hours of credit as a non-degree student.. To change their status from special student to full or part time student, they must petition the Graduate Committee in writing as well as submit official scores from the Graduate Record Examination.
