Background:
Professor Frost’s primary research and teaching interests are in the area of punishment and social control. Specifically, she is interested in punitiveness (both individual and state level), formal and informal social control, and the effects of incarceration and reentry on individuals, families, and communities. Additional teaching interests include criminal justice policy and administration (particularly sentencing). Professor Frost’s doctoral dissertation, The Problem of Punitiveness, examined state-level variations in punitiveness across measures and over time. She is currently working with the Women’s Prison Association (WPA) on an assessment of state-level variations in punitiveness towards women.
Prior to joining the faculty at Northeastern, Professor was Assistant Director of the CUNY’s Doctoral Program in Criminal Justice housed at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She also previously held an Assistant Professorship in the Department of Sociology at SUNY-College at Old Westbury. Professor Frost holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northeastern University and a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the City University of New York’s Graduate School and University Center.
Professor Frost was recently named Associate Editor of Criminology & Public Policy. Criminology & Public Policy, an official publication of the American Society of Criminology, is a peer-review journal devoted to bridging the gap between criminological knowledge and criminal justice policy and practice. Prior to her appointment as Associate Editor, she served as founding Managing Editor from 2000 until 2005.
