Background:
Professor Donna Bishop specializes in juvenile justice, juvenile delinquency and law and social policy. She has written and published extensively on juvenile justice policy and practice, including the transfer of juveniles to criminal courts; juvenile detention reform; assessment and treatment of juvenile offenders; and the role of race, gender, and place in justice processing and outcomes.
Professor Bishop has recently been appointed Editor of Justice Quarterly. She has also served as principal investigator on a variety of funded research projects. Most recently, she has been conducting qualitative research on the comparative effects of juvenile and adult processing on the attitudes and behavior of adolescent offenders and quantitative research on the effects of transfer on recidivism.
In addition to her Ph.D. in criminal justice, Professor Bishop holds an advanced degree in counseling and has previously worked with offenders in juvenile detention, and adult prison settings. She has also worked with crime victims and trained police hostage negotiation teams in crisis intervention.
