Background:
Professor Cuevas received his B.A. from Tufts University and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. Prior to arriving at Northeastern University, Professor Cuevas was a post-doctoral research fellow in the Family Research Laboratory/Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. Previously he has also worked at the Massachusetts Treatment Center for Sexually Dangerous Persons located in Bridgewater, MA.

Professor Cuevas’s current research interests are in the area of sexual violence and sexual offending, victimization and trauma, and psychological assessment. Specifically, his current work is examining sexual violence among Latino women and its association to other forms of victimization, psychological distress, and service utilization. In addition, he is studying the association between psychological distress, psychiatric diagnosis, and its role in the risk of re-victimization in children. Professor Cuevas also conducts research in the area of posttraumatic stress disorder, psychological assessment, and the intersection between victimization and delinquency. Professor Cuevas continues to engage in clinical work, providing assessment and treatment to victims of abuse and trauma as well as sex offenders.
