ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Message From The Dean

Welcome to the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. The College is one of the oldest criminal justice schools in the country and one of only three colleges devoted to criminal justice and criminological study in the United States. We are also one of the largest colleges of criminal justice enrolling 1000 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students. Our new Ph.D. program will also add about 40 graduate students over the next several years.

Our educational offerings cover the full range of criminal justice issues and professions and our classroom education, coupled with integrative learning provided in collaboration with Northeastern's renowned Co-operative Education Program, further distinguishes the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. With over 7,000 graduates now occupying leadership positions in law and jurisprudence, policing and security, corrections and juvenile justice, and research and higher education, the College is poised to be one of the 10 most prominent US and 50 most prominent international schools devoted to the study of criminology and criminal justice practice and policy.

Our faculty are drawn from many academic specialities including law, criminology, public policy, sociology, psychology, political science, economics and history. Our Center for Criminal Justice Policy Research and Institute for Race and Justice are intimately engaged in shaping criminal justice polices and programs, and our students through Co-op are systematically exposed to how criminal justice is administered on a day-to-day basis at the federal, state and local levels of government, and within the greatly expanding security industry. We are also home to the George Lewis Ruffin Society, an organization committed to equity in the administration of justice. Whatever your criminal justice interest, the College of Criminal Justice will prepare you well for graduate and law school, as well as for leadership roles in the criminal justice system.

This website provides detailed information about the College, its academic programs, topics of interest among faculty, faculty and their academic and criminal justice experience, and our rich and diverse student body. Our curricula are also provided as well as information about how to apply to Northeastern University. There are also several links that take you directly to the University's admissions, student services and Co-operative Education areas.

Northeastern is in the midst of a dramatic revitalization and transformation. President Freeland has positioned Northeastern University to become a national research university that is student-centered, practice-oriented and urban. This mission is well-suited to the College of Criminal Justice, reflecting its past, its current emphases and its future. We hope you can join us and be part of this future.
