ABOUT THE COLLEGEHistoryFounded in 1968 through a Ford Foundation Grant, the College of Criminal Justice functions as a small specialized college supported by the resources of a major urban university. Although the original focus of the College in the 60s and 70s was largely law enforcement, it has grown with the science of criminal justice and criminology, expanding to encompass a multi-disciplinaried approach that fosters critical thinking for a variety of related fields. The College now maintains concentrations within juvenile justice, criminology, corrections, and security, as well as law enforcement. The College's strong reputation has been built upon both the strength of its faculty's research as well as fieldwork and experiential knowledge. In 2003, the College is home to several national and international scholars as part of the faculty, and our community continues to grow. Currently, nearly 1,200 undergraduate and 75 graduate students from all over the globe make up part of the student population. Within the larger community of criminal justice, our graduates have gone on to successful careers in the law, prisons, research, juvenile justice, alternative sanction, security and many other related fields. Currently, Northeastern's College of Criminal Justice undergraduate and graduate programs are considered among the top.
